Show You Should Know: Kat & Brad / Hawthorn at Atwoods (5/19)
Kat & Brad kind of came to me out of nowhere…ok, maybe that isn’t true because I was well versed in violinist and singer-songwriter Kathleen Parks’ other projects for quite some time. But the duo’s recent release hit me like a ton of bricks. Bricks that inflict pillowy harmonies and vibrant melodies into your whole being that warm you from within and make you feel all the good feels…you know, rather than pain like bricks would typically inflict.
Hawthorn too, a few years ago, kind of came at me out of nowhere. Maybe 2 and a half years ago a video for The Arboretum Sessions was dropped into my inbox and I was immediately sold on Taylor and Heather’s enchanting vocal harmonies and the elegant dancing of each note they poured out into the air. I’ve been a fan ever since and they only get better and better with time.
These situations are perhaps a testament to the vast diversity of music within the Boston area…hell, the diversity just within the roots and folk community within the Boston area even.
These two fantastic acts hit Atwood’s this Sunday (5/19) for a double bill to die for. Both celebrate recent releases that are sure to end up on some “best of” lists by the year end…wink, wink…and while I know some folks may be saying “but its a Sunday night”…trust me on this one, this is one way to shake the Monday blues and start your week off the right way.
Here’s a session with did with the women of Hawthorn a while back. Get out to the show. Get your tickets now.
