Fresh Track: Annabel Lee “Up”

In some ways it can take completely breaking down an artist to find what they are truly made of. In the case of now LA-based singer-songwriter Annabel Lee, that thing is pure fucking unbridled strength and power.

A move from one coast to another. Finding a home in a new place. And a slew of other life changes see an artist opening new doors and the light emitting from those entryways is brilliantly blinding. Shedding a bit of the bluesy rock that fans of the past may have come to know her for and applying a bit more production and alternative pop to her sound, while genres may shift slightly the grit, intensity and candor are still on full display.

There is such fury and fiery in her delivery on “Up”. The words “I’m going up, up, up, up to the top cause the bottom don’t fuck me with” cutting so deep they saw through bone. The conviction and brute force in their conveyance enough to knock you over. But the balance she tempers with a bridge that falls out and delicately cushions you in a comforting way. An ethereal reprieve with her soaring voice and soft keys …but just for a moment as the emotion again builds to that original fervent passion. One thing is for certain, this woman means fucking business.

Listen to this song and keep an eye on Annabel Lee. I venture to say this is just the beginning of some big things for her.
