Peep This: Bob Bradshaw “My Double and I”
A quick look at Boston based singer-songwriter Bob Bradshaw‘s Youtube channel and you will see that he is a big fan of something we don’t get all too often these day: the concept video. With vibes ranging from the noir and ‘Fear and Loathing’-esque back desert tapestry of “Crazy Heart” to the indie movie styled backseat cab ride of “Call it What you Will”, the thought, style and detail he puts into these visual story-telling versions of his songs, well its just not something you see much of these days with artists opting for live video takes of tunes. Perhaos something that isn’t quite as narrative in its approach as Bob’s. A visionary? A renaissance man? I think a little of both and I hope that more artists take note.
Bradshaw’s latest project pits himself against…well, himself in both visual and audible fashions. “My Double and I” is a single off of his recent release, ‘American Echoes’ . Again he delivers with a four minute and fifteen second music video that plays out more like a short film you would see at Sundance than a way to promote your song a bit more broadly than just a record. It has a turn of the century kind of a vibe. The humor that plays out through its entirety. Every detail from the candle on the table to the costuming…its entertaining, its captures such a mood and the movement of the track and its instrumentation and heck, if this songwriting thing ever doesn’t work out I think Bradshaw may need to try his hand in acting. Plus, I mean its just plain beautifully shot.
