Fresh Track: INFJ “Ohio”
For the sarcastic, dry natured humor of many of Scott Thompson’s social media posts, the guy can write a song that wrings my heart out like a soaked car wash rag and crushes me in the most gut wrenching and emotion inducing way…and damn it feels good to feel. Coupled with Hayley Simmons’ heartfelt and floating vocal, its a sledgehammer to the chest…but, gently. If that makes sense. A hard hitting sort of sensitivity. Impactful as all hell, but in a tender manner that pulls on some false facade of letting you down easy, but man is it poignant and emotion inducing. There is an alchemy that is present between Thompson and Simmons that is undeniable and absolutely beautiful. Together the duo are INFJ and if this first single is any indication, then the band’s follow up to the self titled 2015 release is one to pick up ASAP.
The track starts off simply enough, with this guitar effect that elicits some hardcore nostalgia. Its the tone that I am guessing a lot of us had in some of our first guitar pedal set up. Then the second verse hits and a swinging backbeat enters the picture, filling the void with a sparkling second guitar, a moving bass line and fiddle. Well…just listen to it.
summer turned to autumn
so your golden hair has turned to brown
try loosening your grip
if you intend on holding on to what you found
“Ohio” in the first track off of the band’s forthcoming EP, Ashes, which was recorded at Converse Rubber Tracks in Boston, MA. Keep an eye (and an ear) out for that release coming soon…in the meanwhile we will just be here streaming this and feeling all of the feelings.
