Perhaps a bit less “roots”, somewhat lighter on the “acoustic folk” than her last release ‘Fossils’, and certainly a departure from her bluegrass infused days in Crooked Still, singer-songwriter Aoife O’ Donovan returns with a triumphant sophomore effort, well at least a peak into what I am sure will be a triumphant record across the board.

O’ Donovan’s voice is still the prime highlight in this new track, as it always has been and always should be. The way she enunciates phrasings and ends each line is unique. There is not a voice like this gal’s and with each return listen I am pulled further and further into this world she has created. There is something mysterious about it, intriguing and cautionary, but pleasant and in a gorgeous honey-tone all at the same while. The arrangement built up around that vocal with guitars, strings and keys providing a solid foundation for her voice to soar.

If this is even a mere glimpse into what is to come from Aoife on her new release (In The Magic Hour, due out January 22, 2016) we are all in for something special. Pre order the new record here: http://yeproc.11spot.com/aoife-o-donovan-in-the-magic-hour-bundle-pre-order-11-13.html
