Breaking Single: Eilen Jewell “Rio Grande”
I first came across the queen of the minor key through friends Girls Guns and Glory. I was on the road with them for a short stint back in 2008 and they were sharing a bill with Ms. Jewell and her band at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe, PA. You don’t know where that is? I didn’t either, but its a quaint little mountain town that time has seemingly forgotten all about. Charming as heck, hell, its charming as Eilen Jewell was that evening as she wowed the crowd (and made an immediate fan of me) with her songs and wit.
A new song from the roots n’ rock songstress came across my inbox and I need to share for the greater good of the world. With that signature, almost flamenco like strum of the guitar, soaring lead lines, and of course Jewel’s relaxed but commanding voice, it’s definitely a “listen to this 5 times in a row” type of song.
Here you are folks, Eilen Jewell’s “Rio Grande” off of her upcoming May release “Sundown Over Ghost Town”.
