A Jubilant Sound : 10 Years of Ear Trumpet Labs

I can personally say that my creative life has changed exponentially (positively) due to the wonderful folks at Ear Trumpet Labs . When I first started filming The Old Spruce Sessions and later on doing similar work specifically for artists or festivals I had a (insert different brand) condenser mic that always just got TOO much air noise or ambiance to the point when it was no longer ambiance, it was just noise that distracted from the performance of the artists I was filming and recording.

Edwina showed up on a stage at a Milk Carton Kids show many years ago and I was, of course, immediately drawn to the aesthetic and look it provided on stage, but more importantly how it was able to capture the beauty of two voices and two guitars becoming one heart melting sonic wave of emotion. Surely it was because there was a pro sound person behind it and the two folks on stage were absolute pros at doing the “one mic dance”. This, absolutely, is a big part of it, but right out of the metal red case, the first time I plugged in and used it I was blown away with just how little I had to do to make something sound great. I am never nervous about sound performance using these microphones. Be it on stage or shooting a band in the middle of the woods for an off stage session. They perform…and the people behind the scenes crafting their working piece of art are so caring and appreciative of their customers.

I now own and use a Josephine, an Edwina and a Delphina for my work…and am considering adding a second Edwina to the arsenal. I love these mics and I love this company and am so excited to see them celebrating a decade of bringing their craft to artists and working engineers/filmmakers/music documentarians to help bring their work to life.

We love you!

Celebrating 10 Years of Ear Trumpet Labs

We are so delighted to announce that this month we’re celebrating 10 years of Ear Trumpet Labs! In summer 2011, in a messy basement of miscellaneous hardware parts, electrical components, oscilloscopes, and stringed instruments, I decided to turn my microphone tinkering into a full time job. With the generous support of artists and the music community, we’ve been able to grow into a bustling workshop of 6 workers building and sending mics all over the world. We are excited to celebrate with the artists who have been there for us every step of the way!

A special edition microphone, new merch, and other exciting things will be happening throughout the month, so be sure you’re following us on social media and stay tuned. Tag us and use the hashtag #10YearsofETL to celebrate with us!
