GMBR Artist Throwback: Twisted Pine

We are rounding the 3 week mark from the wonderful Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots festival and given that our old mando pickin’ pal Dan Bui took some time with the artist questions (but they got to me when I was already on site at the fest) I thought it only right to do a little throwback and feature them here.

I also happen to be in the throws of editing our video sessions from GMBR and just wrapped one of the two incredible tunes filmed with Twisted Pine…I’m still sitting here with my jaw on the floor. Seriously, they f*cking brought it.

Check out the answers that Dan provided for us below and keep an eye on the GMBR socials for the inevitable video roll out of sessions from the fest.

RLR: You performed at the festival last year for its very first event. What were the highlights for you as an artist performing at the very first GMBR and also as a lover of music, what were the highlights that you saw on stage (or off) from your friends and contemporaries?

DB: First of all, it was a huge honor to be included in the first festival – and I’m really stoked to see what’s in store for year two! Highlights for me last year were the totally collaborative GMBR-only John Hartford tribute, the late-night-anything-goes Lamplighter Sessions, and Bobby Britt’s festival ending set that featured Jill and John Turpin was really special as well.

RLR:. What are your hopes for this year as a returning artist? Any thing you would like to see play out? Collaborations you hope to see?

DB: We’re just extremely grateful to be back and looking forward to including our music in what will surely be an inspiring musical weekend. And as for collaborations, well there’s such a cool mix of musicians there! The lineup combines some of the best of our younger contemporaries with bonafide legends like Sam Bush, Darrell Scott, Donna the Buffalo, Reischman, Flinner, Grier, Molsky, Danny Barnes, Rayna Gellert, etc…. These are the people who have inspired us! Would be sweet to see collaborations between those two groups play out, which I’m sure they will.

RLR: Similarlywhat set are you most pumped for?

DB: Difficult question, but for me personally the Strength In Numbers Tribute is a must see. I love that album and you’re not gonna catch that set anywhere else!

RLR: The biggest piece of GMBR is this collaborative community mindset. Bluegrass and folk music in and of itself really lends itself to that and last year it was kind of a family reunion of sorts back stage with artists that hadnt seen each other in a while. What does that sensibility mean to you as an artist in this scene?

DB: It’s hard to put into words how special that feeling is. One minute you’re catching up with old friends you haven’t seen all year, and the next you’re completely starstruck around one of your heroes. And everyone there has a mutual admiration for each other, a shared love of music, and just an appreciation for being there. All I can really say is that I’m grateful to get to be a part of it.

RLR:. What else do you have going on? Anything you want to push?

DB: Twisted Pine has a bunch of new music and a really fun new lineup that we can’t wait to bring to Green Mountain. It’s been a load of fun making up new music with these folks, and we hope you all dig it as much as we do!
