Fresh Track: “Peach Fuzz,” by Caamp

If you happen to be on Nantucket this week, you should head on over to The Chicken Box on Wednesday night to catch Caamp live. But if you’re like the rest of us–that is, not on Nantucket–you should check out, “Peach Fuzz,” Caamp’s new single from their forthcoming album By and By

It’s got a bouncy rhythm reminiscent of, “Sweet Jane.” Taylor Meier sings, “No need to complicate it, I had fallen in love,” and that line could encapsulate this song in some ways. It’s straightforward, joyful, and captures that blissful feeling of falling hard for someone. I really like how they run the lines together for the pre-chorus, messing with the meter just enough to keep things interesting. Caamp puts the solos after the main action of the song, and that is such a brilliant production decision–it allows the song to maintain its momentum and then breakout in a celebratory way. The instrumental portion echoes the emotional quality of the lyric perfectly–it’s jaunty and upbeat.

Roll down the windows, take a drive, and turn up “Peach Fuzz.”
