Singled Out: Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen “Fear, Love and Greed”
The push and pull of Rebecca Rego’s delivery in “Fear, Love and Greed” feels like your legs are swept out from under you. Initially, soft, delicate and wavering in the breeze of acoustic guitar notes that trickle gently in the arrangement and then it hits. The power of her voice unleashed. Somewhere between the 90s grunge that my nostaglia appetite hungers for and contemporary folk. An attitude and grit that scratches that itch but storytelling and balance that keeps the rudder steady. And we are off…listen in. This here is some good stuff.

What About It: “Fear, Love and Greed” was written after a trip I took with friends to see the totality of the solar eclipse in Tennessee. There was a moment when the sun went dark and I realized how much nature and the randomness of where we are born has to do with how we see the world. Also, there was a lot of time to think about lyrics in the seven hours of traffic on the way back to Louisville, Kentucky.”
