Peep This: Owen-Glass “Here It Comes”

Texas based indie folk rock duo Owen-Glass just dropped a new video for their tune “Here It Comes”.

Sonically, it has a “Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst if the singing was less emo-drive” kind of a vibe. There is heart and emotion in the delivery, but it’s still smooth and listenable. The arrangement has that sensibility. At times phrasings also taking on a Shakey Graves-esque tone. Its curious and rich in delivery and sound.

The track moves along at a steady but not overhurried pace. Coupling dynamics that are a bit juxtaposed in terms of meaning and vibe.

We’re just wasting our time, chasing all that glitters and shines

But perhaps the message of the tune and the video are a bit more serious than all that. TV clickers and footage of war and destruction interplay with the band live in studio. Our focus darting between the creation of something pleasant and comforting and the destruction and disarray of life that sometimes goes ignored when we put on the blinders. The message being something unavoidable (unless you live in a remote Canadian village somewhere near the Arctic Circle) to us in a modern context. Described by the band as “a fascinating statement on the anxiety that overexposure to the media stirs up inside us while also serving as an examination of the ebb and flow of war and peace, anxiety and contentment, and dissatisfaction and satisfaction.” Something I think we all consciously or subconciously suffer from, but aren’t always accutely aware of.

“Here It Comes” is off of their upcoming debut album The Rope & The Rabbit, which is set to drop on May 10.
