Singled Out: Sean Whiting “Oh Well”
Is there an electric sitar in there? The dueling guitar lines of Sean Whiting’s new track “Oh Well” has a layering effect that pulls at you in this way. His voice has a classic gleam to it. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but its decorated in hints of nostaglia. A long white line and open road sort of painted landscape. Dust kicked and dawn rides through terrain left unnoticed by most, but where Whiting shines the brightest.
Who: Sean Whiting
From: Paintsville, KY
Song: “Oh Well”
Latest Record: High Expectations (out on Eastwood Records, May 3)
What About It: “Imagine a pivotal moment in your life when you’ve been dealt a much needed dose of perspective by your own actions but you’re just too damn stubborn (or intoxicated) to care, so you say ‘to hell with it’ or in this case ‘Oh Well’. That’s basically the idea. It’s straightforward and to the point much like the rest of High Expectations. This album is about the emotion behind the songs and the delivery. To me, the delivery is everything–that’s what rock and roll is and that’s what I’m about–that visceral connection to the song.”
