Yesterday I mentioned to Izzy that I was digging through some old video footage that was never released and stumbled across something we filmed at the house just over a year ago. His initial reaction was it would be strange to see and hear something recorded so long ago. My initial reaction was “damn, super talented young gun”, but then it washed over me just how hard he has been fine tuning his craft, writing, touring, collaborating and stretching the bounds of his art over the past year.
Watching him grow as a songwriter and performer is a real treat. Dude is a great talent, writes fantastic songs and is a hell of a nice guy to boot.
He celebrates the release of a new EP this Friday at Club Passim. Of the first single, “Marching Song”, off that new EP, we had the following to say: “There is an ache in Izzy Heltai‘s voice. A longing. Emotion, pure and distilled through the words and chord progressions of his songs.” You should go (or watch on Concert Window). You should buy this EP. Or if you can’t swing it, then check out www.izzyheltai.com for more of his tour dates.
This video is for a song from a previous EP called “Middle of Winter” released just a few months ago. An artist after my own heart, busting those EP’s out and keeping things fresh. Check it out. Support great local artists.
