The big room at Higher Ground may have been filled to capacity. Shoulder to shoulder and barely an inch to move about. But what played out on stage instigated pin drop silence from the sold out crowd in Burlington on Sunday evening.
Mandolin Orange performed their new record “Tides of a Tear Drop” in full over the course of their headlining set. The band threw in some old favorites in the mix, but overall the show was all about the new songs and the crowd was all in for the fresh release, engaged and fully invested in each and every line.
You come to love bands. Sometimes they fade in and out of your consciousness, but this is one band that is fully cemented in my brain for the long haul.
Opening act Mapache was also a delightful surprise. Not having seen them before it was a welcome surprise to have they captivate the already almost capacity room with a single mic, two voices and two guitars. An almost Milk Carton Kids of the Southwest-esque vibe. Gorgeous harmonies and perfectly picked guitars dominated the set and quickly won over the audience.
