Singled Out: Tiny Ocean “Astronaut”

Who: Tiny Ocean

From: Connecticut

Song: “Astronaut”

Latest Record: Sometimes You’re Right

What About It: “This song was written about how impossible it can be to escape our own perspectives and find connection. Ultimately it’s about hope, told through a story about a multiverse where there are other you’s that see, hear and speak differently, and despite this we still have faith that we can communicate, understand and empathize. That we can leave our cumbersome and comfortable worlds and really feel each other. The astronaut represents the aerial view, unbound by gravity, ego or worldliness. The narrator at the end of the song is in a forgiving “in-between” space, knowing everything and nothing at all.  It’s an acceptance, I guess. Maybe the way some people describe faith in God, but also the faith in knowledge and understanding of oneself and others.”
