Fresh Track: The Rear Defrosters “Thank the Lord”

The most special musical moments happen when separate artists join forces for a passion project. Such is the case with The Rear Defrosters. Honky-tonk, soul, rock n’roll, any way that you slice it, there is something fun and energizing about this band’s music.

The band members ranging from a host of New England heavy hitters and including the phrase “and/or anybody else who happens to show up” further cements a sense of loose and flowing, anything goes, tap your boots and clink you glass jubilance that gets you moving…and keeps you moving.

The new single “Thank the Lord” is dotted with spaghetti western twang and high and lonesome vocals. A driving two step beat and barroom laments. Michael Roberts’ quickfire delivery matches Sam Moss’s weaving guitar lines. The song sweeps you up and locks you right into its swinging rhythms. There is a reason this style of music has had such a resurgence and in actuality, never went away. It grooves, its has a movement that cannot be matched. There is a purity to Roberts’ vocal that dovetails with the song title and while it make not be gospel, the juxtaposition works beautifully. Timeless.

The new EP from The Rear Defrosters is due out on September 7th. We will be grooving to this tune until then and suggest you do the same.
