Fresh Track: Town Meeting “Good Enough”
The sentiment of being good enough is certainly something that is constantly barraging us in today’s society. Every waking moment we have a deluge of images and social media posts showing us everyone’s ‘best life’, however real or fake those images may be. It is near impossible to escape and extremely difficult to overcome the polarizing feelings, of desirability and inequity, with how we live our lives in the modern construct of society. Every so often a step back and a reality check is a much needed exhale.
“I think ‘Good Enough’ is kind of a middle finger to the constant stream of anxiety and stress that comes with every decision we make. For better or for worse, sometimes we spend so much time looking for reasons, questioning everything, and trying to justify all the choices we make in life,” Town Meeting‘s Tim Cackett explains of the band’s new single. “Unwarranted guilt can creep in. Anxiety. Doubt. It can really eat away at a person. Sometimes you just need to say “how about ’cause it feels good and that’s good enough.” The inception of the song itself is cool, as well. We had pretty carefully mapped out our next album before recording it, and this song wasn’t on it. In fact, it didn’t even exist yet. Then during some downtime on day two in the studio, we were playing around with some different ideas and the song kind of came out of nowhere. We knew pretty immediately that it needed to be on the album.”
And while tours with bands like Dustbowl and warming up crowds for the likes of Dylan, Sturgill Simpson and Willie Nelson, its obvious to see the band has been getting some really great traction in recent years, but in our conversation the band truly seems to have a sense of “home” and that pull back to where they lay their heads off of the road in Massachusetts.
Upon bringing that up Cackett responded, “That’s one of the reasons we love RLR so much! I might be going out on a limb here, but I honestly believe the New England music scene is the best it’s ever been. The atmosphere is super supportive, the fans up here are incredible, and the talent is out of this world. From Portland to Boston to Hartford – there’s always a show going on, and they’re always good. Julie Rhodes, These Wild Plains, Hannah Daman, The Ghost of Paul Revere, Tigerman Woah, – and so many more – we feel insanely blessed to not only call these artists our peers, but also our friends. We play together, we write together, we listen to each others records. Like I said, it’s the best it’s ever been.”
Indeed it is.
Town Meeting will be doing 3 dates in March opening for Dustbowl Revival: 3/12 at City Winery (Boston), 3/16 at Narrows Center for the Arts (Fall River, MA) and 3/31 at Gateway City Arts (Holyoke, MA). Plus more down the line on their website.
