Fresh Track: Samantha Farrell ftr. Dennis Brennan “Lost Without Your Love”

The calm bowing of an orchestral din enters a dark frame and the voice of Samantha Farrell , soon after, knocks you a bit off balance as an endless tank reverberated guitar slowly treads along beneath it. There is a playful youthfulness in her vocal, but yet its infused with such vast experience in the delivery of each phrasing. The verging of the two opposing ideas melding in a brilliant formulation of sound. A sophistication that is fine scotch poured from a cross hatched crystal decanter. Steeped in a room smelling of vanilla cigar smoke and floor to ceiling deep velvet drapes. Seductive but self assured and comforting. Refined but high spirited and buoyant.

Sure, its jazz. Its noir. It has a throwback sense of a vibe, but has been brought into our times with the collaboration of two of Boston’s finest singers in the community today.

The lyric video itself is…well, its just awesome. A minute and 17 seconds in Farrell sings the tag of the chorus “Baby, I am lost without your love” and gets up from the park bench (quintessentially overlooking bokeh city lights and the infamous river of Beantown…I am assuming). As local staple and luminary Dennis Brennan‘s voice enters the auditory canvas, he also enters frame. An artist who needs no introduction. The two of these artists have that unmistakeable aesthetic where the veiling of their faces doesn’t obscure their character, both visual and audible. Brennan with his signature hat and trench and Samantha’s blonde tresses dovetailing with their singular and distinct voices. A story within a storied song. The concept, simplistic in design and execution, is absolutely genius.

Samantha Farrell will play the middle set at Dennis Brennan’s ongoing Wednesday night residency at the Lizard Lounge next week, 2/28. Word on the street is the live debut of the tune may also make an appearance. Tickets HERE.
