Show You Should Know: Anthony da Costa At Lizard Lounge (5/6)

Anthony da Costa is name you may not know this second, but in the next year I am certain you will. I first saw da Costa back in early 2016 as a part of Aoife O’ Donovan’s band at the Sinclair. There is an understated larger-than-life vibe to this guy. On stage he may come across as bashful or shy as he saunters onto the stage, picks up his guitar and the song begins. He colors tunes in a way that elevates them to soaring heights, then he sings. A voice that turns a few heads and it did that night at The Sinclair. Powerful, yet subdued and reserved in some fashion – adding just enough, just where it is needed, just like the singer-songwriter himself.

I then delved into Anthony’s solo work and…just wow. His 2016 release (aptly titled “da Costa”) was  one of my favorites of the year and the song “I Can’t Stop It” hit especially hard. A track that was “Mellowed and polished but with just enough cracks in its exterior to let the emotion seep out and into each and every line“. The dude’s voice just makes you feel. Feel ALL of the things.

He roams through Cambridge on a short Northeast stint this coming Saturday and I couldn’t imagine a more fitting room for his songs that the comfort and solace that the Lizard Lounge provides. Get your tickets in advance folks and be sure to keep an eye out for him wherever you may be reading this from. He is an artist not to be missed.

P.S. the friggin Stray Birds are playing too…so, yeah folks. be there!
