Stand Up, Band Together: “Band Together: Songs of Protest”, Stream It, Buy It, Support It and Don’t Back Down
The RPM Challenge is something near and dear to my own heart. I have participated twice and gotten some new songs and recordings from it…and its taught me lessons in how hard it can be to create a concrete collection of songs when the screws are really put to you.
Well a collection of folks had a better idea, band together and create a collection of protest songs from not just one artist, but a whole slew of them. A couple of good friends (and friends of friends), including our old pal Dan Blakeslee who also provided the cover art for the collection. The variety contained within the 24 tracks is unbeatable, ranging from the folkiest of folk to sugary pop sentiments and acoustic punk lo-fi goodness.
From the liner notes on Bandcamp: This album was created as part of 2017’s RPM Challenge in which bands are challenged to write and record an album in the month of February. These are all the folks who responded to our call to write a protest song. All proceeds from this album will go to the American Civil Liberties Union who work in the courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.
The project was organized by Guy Capecelatro III, who also managed to contribute 3 of his own new songs to the compilation while herding all the submissions…which, in our books is impressive as hell.
So, stream it, buy it and lets keep our voices being heard and justice for ALL humans.
