There is no denying that for as long as Christopher Paul Stelling has been playing music he has been pouring his whole heart into it. To see him perform is to be entranced by the magic of his energy, his fervor, his passion for the songs that he is playing. Stelling’s 2015 release “Labor Against Waste” was a poignant example of how much a person can truly put into their art. The man bleeds himself into his work unlike any artist I can think of out there today, and that much is evident in both his recordings and his live performances.
May 5th will mark a new record for Stelling. A year that has already seen his voice be as strong as ever, lending it to rise up against a society seemingly falling in on itself. Late last year he released ‘badguys‘, an anthem against an authoritarian ideal that seems to be growing around us every day and seeping into every aspect of our culture. And with the announcement of his latest work we get another track and video for the song “Destitute”. A tune rooted in the life of a musician making his living off his art…and the only way to do so these days is to be forever on the road. Something that CPS knows all too well. In his words, “Just when I start to settle in again, it’s time to pack up and go.”
