John Moreland has cemented himself in the ranks of Folk and Americana as the “songwriter’s songwriter”. The type of artist who injects so much of himself into his songs that you can’t help but truly feel his emotions when you listen to him sing. The writer who even the most talented writer’s say “man, I wish I could write a tune like that” when they hear some of his lines, delivered with a conviction and heart that cuts…and cuts to the bone. He is, bluntly put, just real. Genuine and fully baring of everything that is contained in his heart and he presents those feelings in a stripped down and soul crushingly, heart wrenching fashion.
I’ve listened to John’s records countless numbers of times and seen him a handful of times and whether its in front of a large crowd or alone in my home studio, the man never ceases to bring me to tears with his words and music. He is as emotive and effecting songwriter as there ever was and his latest record is a highly anticipated follow up to one of the best albums released in 2015.
From Moreland’s press team: Critically acclaimed songwriter John Moreland will release his fourth solo album Big Bad Luv on May 5th via 4AD. Big Bad Luv marks a change in Moreland’s sound and outlook on life. With lyrics that are as intense and unfiltered as on his earlier work, Moreland delves into finding peace within. He also branches out sonically on the new album, which is injected with a heavier dose of rock ‘n’ roll in comparison to the tone of his previous recordings.
We can’t wait to hear more about what the “branching out sonically” means for John and his words, but until May 5th rolls around we will be spinning this tune non-stop. Get on board folks and pre-order “Big Bad Luv” today.
