There is an undeniable, magical contrast in the music of Matt Lorenz. He seems to juxtapose varying emotions, feelings and sounds in a way that is often times mind boggling. Abutting overdriven guitars and clanging noise making devices he has crafted from throwaways alongside beautiful vocals and entrancing throat singing. It almost shouldn’t work. It should be almost too jarring, but it is absolute beauty unleashed in a way that not a lot of people can manage to harness each and every time.
The Suitcase Junket‘s latest video for “The Next Act” ( from his new album ‘Pile Driver’ to be released April 21 on Signature Sounds) is no different. A gritty guitar rings beneath a reverberating vocal and the kick and high hat, an ebb and flow, it pushes and pulls you in a way. Heavy, but lilting; rock n’ roll but delicate all the while.
Check it out and be on the lookout for Lorenz’s latest. If the last two projects are any indication, its going to be a hell of a record.
