Fall Flannels: November Concert Preview

Canada-120-Edit

There is a chill in the air and that means that the music at your favorite local haunt, spiced whiskey drinks (or straight up), hearty homestyle menus and layering up on flannel shirts, denim jackets and parkas is now in. Its November folks, winter is coming but we still have that last breath of Fall left to take in and you might as well take it in with a killer soundtrack at some of the best venues around New England. Let’s check in, shall we?

Early in the month sees a couple great shows going down both North and South of us up here in on the mount. Our favorite spot up in Burly celebrates its 16th Birthday this Saturday, so be sure to get on down and wish Radio Bean a Happy one. Jesse Dee will also be in the area (and all month long) with a residency next door at Light Club Lamp Shop (every Wednesday in November at 9:30 PM). For those also up this way in Burlington the following shows are a couple choice ones we have had on our calendars for weeks now: Lydia Loveless and Aaron Lee Tasjan will unleash a mighty wave of sound (and great tunes) on Higher Ground on 11/7, a few days later Miss Margo Price will get you moving, shaking, dancing and questioning all the wrongs you done with your life to a country two stepping backbeat and a punch to the heart on 11/12 and later on in the month sees The Stray Birds with opener (and one of our favorite new to us artists) Anthony da Costa gracing the showcase lounge on 11/16. So if you are up north, there isn’t snow on the ground quite yet, get out and enjoy some music.

Camberville is always stacked with great stuff to take in and November is no different. The last week of the month at Passim is a ridiculous reason to get out and see music Sunday-Wednesday with Hayley Reardon, Anthony da Costa/Lula Wiles, John Craigie/Honeysuckle, and Joe Walsh’s CD release show all coming back to back to back…to back. Early in the month catch the Discovery Series on 11/14 with Nate Sabat and Gillian Grogan or you can never go wrong with Mark Erelli on 11/18.

Atwoods is my ideal spot to take in a slow burn bourbon, a warm atmosphere, something warm and fattening to heat my belly and great tunes to boot. Tim Gearan plays every Friday and has some great opening acts, but I would suggest the 2nd Friday (11/11) with Jenee Halstead if you have to choose just one.  Also promising is the night before with Charlie Parr and Eric Royer’s mind boggling one man band or the following night with The Silks. Fast forward a week and a day and our good ol pal Zach Schmidt will be up from Nashville with the band supporting one hell of a fantastic record. The always wonderful Cowboy & Lady opens the night…so, if its country goodness you crave, get on down and grab a dancing partner. Schmidt will also be performing down in Providence for my pick of the month: Ian Fitzgerald’s CD release show at Columbus Theatre. Fitzgerald, Schmidt and the band and Haunt the House all perform. Magic and rock n’ roll countrified electricity. Be there.

Lizard Lounge plays host to a hugely excellent month…you might as well bring a cot and stay there all month. Hightlights include: Dennis Brennan’s CD release (TONIGHT and TOMORROW), Spotted Tiger / Muddy Ruckus / Wise Old Moon (11/10), Tribute Tuesday w/ Isa Burke + Sean Trischka, Cold Chocolate CD release w/ Cricket Tell the Weather (11/18), The Stash! Band w/The Lonely Heartstring Band (11/19). Wow…

Get out and see some live music this month folks!
