Peep This: Grant Earl Lavalley “Let The Light Shine In”
Grant Earl Lavalley came out of left field and had me on the hook right away with his last video release. There is something so melancholy, grainy and dark about his music in a way that is equally captivating as it is saddening. I just long for music that can have that emotional impact on me and somehow Lavalley hits a nerve deep within the recesses of my brain that just does it for me.
In his new release, the songwriter plays a multitude of parts ranging from the very grim to the lighter and brighter side of protagonists. His voice has this Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart and meets the dead pan delivery of Mitch Hedberg. Its soothing in a way.
Similar to the release for “Dark Love”, there is a shakey, real, first person kind of voyeuristic feel to the shooting of the video. Making it for an interesting perspective on a tune riddled with spooky drifting textures and a story line following a dark and troubled story line that leaves you wondering “what the f*ck just happened?”.
Man, its some good stuff.
