More than just a songwriter. More than just a singer. Ruby Rose Fox has embedded herself and her art into the hearts of fans by being a topnotch performer, a singer with a golden voice that is both unique and still somehow comfortably familiar in its own way. Fox’s voice seemingly has a tractor beam that draws you in and won’t detach itself from you, which quite frankly I am totally good with.
The latest in a series of videos from the singer-songwriter’s latest release, ‘Domestic’, is “Every Time I Tell”. A beautifully shot pictorial that is part American Horror Story and part Stepford Wives with a dark and deep story, despite the vivid color palette used in the visuals within.
Fox has an uncanny ability to use that vivid imagery in her videos to convey a message. With this being one of a rather serious nature of domestic abuse and the prison that people in those situations find themselves. Ruby is an incredibly brave and forward thinking artist in the way that she uses these images to portray themes of objectification and abuse. With her laying amongst gold treasures (herself painted head to toe in a glimmering yellowed hue), on a table as the serving dish for sweet treats and overindulgence. The characters that she plays each having its deeper meaning if you dig for it.
I find her to be a truly outspoken voice for issues that people so often leave ignored and she does so in a way that is both intelligent, informed and artistically beautiful. An artist it the most honest and genuine meaning of the word. I can’t even begin to form words around how much this woman continues to impress and amaze me with her growth as a performer, musician and advocate for contemporary societal problems that actually matter.
Oh, and her voice is fucking phenomenal.
