For those that know me on more personal level than “some guy behind an internet curtain writing some things about music in New England”, you know I am also a mandolinist and avid fan of all things mando (see drooling over Girouard Mandolins’ Facebook feed and stalking Mandolin Cafe classifieds for guitar bodied octaves).
David Grisman has had a profound effect on not just me as a player, but the genre of bluegrass music as a whole and stretching the traditions to their limits by infusing genres crossing jazz, celtic, folk, and bluegrass to create a sound that he has created and adapted over his career. He is a pioneer of the music and continues to be a path maker and virtuoso on the instrument.
Grisman and his sextet will be performing at The Chevalier Theatre in Medford this Friday with support from local hot bluegrass favorites Cold Chocolate.
For fans of the genre this is a no brainer show to catch and for those just getting into it or looking for an incredible show that spans so many far reaches of musical prowess, well just get your tickets and get to the theatre on Friday. You will not be disappointed.
