There are few things in this world I enjoy more than a good collaboration and the warbling tone of Ward Hayden’s voice. The frontman of Boston-based Girls Guns and Glory has been a favorite of mine for as long as I have known him as an artist…which has been quite some time. All this gent needs to make a lasting impact is that lonesome cry of his vocal and a simply strummed Gibson acoustic.
This new recording of his tune “Who Will Love You” takes a bit more shape than the first time I heard him play it in my old apartment living room. He slows it down and eases into the tune a bit here. The slow build in that first chorus creates a certain tension. The natural break of his voice pulling at the strummed chords from his acoustic. Then the bridge hits and really breaks the tension nicely and then eases back in repeating lines and building the strumming back up. As always, some great writing and performing from one of Boston’s finest.
Check out the tour dates for the band and get on down to The Envoy Hotel in Boston TONIGHT (4/27) to check out Ward performing a night of solo tunes…and here’s to hoping that this video means a few stripped down solo shows in the future for Hayden where his words and voice will surely shine. Get out and catch he and the boys of GGG soon.
And while you are at it get on over to PB&J Records and check out all the fantastic work they are doing in the local community. These folks are awesome.
