You know that mix of catchiness that isn’t overly poppy or drenched in cheese? I like that mix. I feel like I can live and swim in the sonic ocean of that mix for a while and be very happy. Chicago based singer-songwriter Jared Rabin’s songs dwell in those realms. With soaring, drawn out guitar lines, a catchy and calming voice with a great range, and infectious melody lines I am diving deep into all that is Rabin’s music and lapping up all it has to offer.
The first track of his debut release “Something Left To Say” has a production value that is beyond what typical “Americana” or “Roots” music may strive for, the dirt and dust is brushed away to reveal something a bit shiny and gold, but incredibly enjoyable all the same. The tune moves and sways into its different parts flawlessly, each new introduction to a clap or guitar line being a very welcome one. The singer’s voice is pleasant and alluring. It is all packaged in this anthem quality box that really sings…literally and figuratively. The songs here really build and build in a way that creates tension and excitement and keeps you engaged.
