I think that perhaps one of the most polarizing sessions we had was the mother-daughter team of Ava and Allysen Callery. Polarizing often times takes on a negative connotation, and what I mean when I use it is the farthest thing from that. I am having a hard time in reflecting on that day in the studio and deciding whether it was the sweetest, most endearing moment from the project so far or if it was the most badass and cool moment of the project so far.
This was Ava’s first time in the studio and you would never know it. As Allysen tore through her track with great ease and a professional poise that only seasoned artists can pull off, Ava watched on…and then quickly followed suit like a pro as her mom watched on, proud as ever.
With a Stratocaster and her voice in tow, her take on Allysen’s “Azores Song” is part indie rocker ballad and part poignant folk with an edge. The deeper meaning of the song came out during our talks in the sessions and the choice that Ava made to cover this particular song was heartfelt and genuine.
I give you Ava Callery covering Allysen Callery live from Riverview Studios…
