Fresh Track: Ben Parent “Standing on the Corner of a Backroad in a Farmtown”
“Standing on the Corner of a Backroad in a Farmtown” sounds a bit like a mouthful Dylan song title, but the sound is somehting more of a cleaned up “Nebraska” tune from The Boss. An acoustic guitar, a harmonica, and an overflowing handful of words sung by a modest and frank vocal. Spoken blues in a way, but a little more tempo and urgent on this song from Connecticut based The Rivergods front man, Ben Parent.
The band seems to garner similar comparisons to their previous work with hooks comparing the band to Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks” or Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon”. Always paying tribute to what has worked in the past, but looking ahead and in the present to what is affecting the band and its members. The band has roped in a host of CT based awards and accolades for their work and now Ben Parent spins on into his own project with this first track.
Parent informs us that this is the first tune off a new, upcoming record that is going for just such a vibe. He tells Red Line Roots “…I’m readying a “Nebraska” style solo album, mostly acoustic guitar/harmonica/vocals…”. We look forward to hearing the outcome, but for now here is the first track. Check it.
