Track of the Week: Darlingside “The God of Loss”

There is an incredibly interesting dynamic when a band or album manages to border on classic, warm throw back vibes while maintaining it’s sense of being contemporary and “in the now”. This is something that Darlingside does incredibly well as a band.

Blending their voices into a rich patchwork of harmonies and utilizing acoustic based instrumentation the band walks a line between tradition steeped in folk and roots and modern day indie rock…and rock they do on those acoustic instruments, ever so softly at times, but rock nonetheless. The band begs comparisons to Providence’s The Low Anthem with their intricate and perfected harmonies and the way they fit each instrument piece into the song’s puzzle is well thought and exciting.

“God of Loss” is a track off of the band’s newly released record ‘Birds Say’ but I am really digging this video of the band playing the tune inside a gondola, so I hit you all with that version (don’t worry, more on the new record later) because, well this is badass. They are in a gondola.

Check it out, this week’s featured track.
