I am a sucker for something contemporary that throws back to something that came before it. The Slocan Ramblers play bluegrass roots that could be seen at a modern day festival, baking in the sun, barefeet dancing in the grass or on porch 100 years ago. There is something incredibly refreshing about that. We need to look back every so often to press on ahead and that is what this group of pickers does incredibly well.
‘Rambling Sailor’ has a theme and flavor that could have been written years and years ago. The mandolin line that kicks off the tune has a very “Thile-esque” flavor to it. The fellas are no slouches when it comes to playing. There is a groove and a swing, a dance between the instruments and the way the mood waxes and wans as the track plods along.
Check it out for yourself and be sure to keep an eye out for The Slocan Ramblers latest release Coffee Creek which is due out tomorrow!
