So, there comes a time when we need to take a step back and realize that we need a little help. To keep pressing forward with the community project Locals Covering Locals and wrap up our third installment to be ready for release in the September time frame we need a little help from our friends…that’s you all.
BUT…yes, there is a but. I wouldn’t be able to do this without offering folks something in return for their kindness. If you have been paying attention you know that our good friends at The Loar have again come to our rescue and donated an LM-375 Grassroots F-style mandolin and each 10 dollar donation you make gets you a chance at taking that pretty instrument home for yourself!
As I have been sitting in the studio, watching over 30 artist roll through to cover versions of their favorite songwriter’s songs I have to say, I have been a bit envious. Sure, I have gotten to sit in on a couple tracks, but to be able to put forth a cover of songs that I feel like need to be heard on a compilation, man I would love to be asked to do that! But, I was hesitant because this project is about a community and the artists I respect, not me. That being said, I will be recording my own volume of Locals Covering Locals called “Red Plays His Favorites” in which I take on versions of songs from my friends that I absolutely adore and think you all need to hear.
So far it is looking like many LCL alums (and planned future contributors) will be covered by yours truly including: Will Houlihan, Julie Rhodes, Ian Fitzgerald, Chuck Melchin, Krista Baroni, Connor Millican, Bob Bradshaw, and Eric Lichter. There is of course the possibility of more, but in order to get this done in the mid-June timeframe this may have to be a “volume 1” situation…stay tuned for more and DONATE TODAY! And TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
