Show You Should Know: Dietrich Strause at Club Passim, March 6

I like to credit myself with giving Dietrich one of his first gigs when he got to town…granted it was a terribly crappy gig on a Sunday night at a club in a nearly inaccessible part of the city near Fenway that typically catered to rock bands while we were playing acoustic folk music, but that’s besides the point. Nowadays, Strause is playing with the best musicians in the city (and beyond), has acclaimed recordings, and plays shows with the likes of Della Mae and Aoife O’ Donovan. Plus, the dude just writes phenomenal songs and is as kind  and humble as they come. He has obviously made leaps and bounds, no thanks to that early crappy gig…still, the guy is one hell of a songwriter and I am sure will humor me by saying “oh yeah…I kind of remember that show”.

Dietrich will be back at Club Passim this Friday, March 6th with two of those aforementioned great players, Zack Hickman and Lyle Brewer. Last time I saw Dietrich with Zack, he broke a guitar string at which time, Zach launched into an awe-inspiring bass solo, Dietrich replaced his string, came back into the song, and neither of them so much as blinked. Add Lyle to that mix and I think another Big Bang or similar phenomenon may happen on stage in my favorite, historic basement club…needless to say you should probably make plans to be at this show on Friday. Plus, word on the street is that there will be a special guest…
