Locals Covering Locals V2 Artist: Julie Rhodes

Then there are the very few who just open their mouths one day and blow the roof off of the house. Julie Rhodes falls into that second camp and I am still repairing my roof.

9 or 10 months back my friend Jonah Tolchin sent me a message. That message simply read “you have to listen to this” and there was a link to an EP called “Who’s That Yonder?”. Within seconds I was enthralled with the voice singing into my headphones. Anyone can sing. Yes, anyone can…I am not saying well, but you can sing if you want. NOT everyone can sing like a goddamn boss, and Julie is the bosses of all the bosses when it comes to belting out the blues.

It took me a while to get to catch Julie live, but when I did it was even more impressive. She someone manages to completely captivate and pull an audience into a trance, like they can’t quite believe the voice coming from this gal. The girl has got more soul than most and is a power house of songstress. Oh yeah, and she pretty much just started doing this about a year ago…so yeah, there’s that. She surrounds herself with a band made of friends and that comes across in her live shows. They just have so much fun making music and therefore, you want to have fun with them too.

Between gigging like a mad woman, working on her debut full length record (which will include quite a few special names in the liner notes), and holding down a full time job, she jumped on the chance to be a part of this and knew just who to cover…

I don’t really need to say this, because she already is but….welcome to family Julie Rhodes. You rock.
