20 Reasons to Come to Passim on July 5th for Locals Covering Locals

20 Reasons to come to the show July 5th and get your copy of “Locals Covering Locals”…

1)      Will Houlihan’s song “Vampyre” is one of the most gorgeous songs ever written.

2)      Ian Fitzgerald’s version is equally as moving as the original…and he sings harmony vocals on top of his own vocals on the recording. The guy is incredible…and the song is spooky as shit!

3)      Secret Sounds by Allison Francis is a heck of a sing along tune. You can all sing along with us and rejoice!

4)      Eva Walsh plays fiddle, guitar, AND sings on the one track…plus her partner in covering crime Mark Whitaker will be there. Plus Eva Walsh makes everyone who crosses her path smile.

5)      Noam Weinstein is one of those songwriters I came across from a friend recommending them. I love the guy’s songs now…and that was the point of this whole project. So come be exposed to an artist you will fall in love with!

6)      Mark Whitaker…no one plays banjo like Mark Whitaker. The guy is a phenomenon, come witness it for yourself (also, he is our feature artist of the month!)

7)      Greg Klyma is a traveling man, a vagabond man, and a guy who likes to play with a lot of folks. Hell, he even enlisted the help of Jonathan Byrd to help wrap up his tune ‘Helen Rose’ that is featured on the compilation!

8)      Ryan Fitzsimmons, Laurence Scudder, and Jim Larkin also play with lots of folks. Each of them are masters of their craft and instruments that they play…and their version of Klyma’s song is an absolute knock out

9)      Danielle Miraglia is a badass blues songstress and she plays guitar while playing stompbox and singing on Jenee Halstead’s tune “Building you and Altar”…its, well, totally badass.

10)   Jenee Halstead’s take on Danielle’s song “Choir” has as much love sunk into it as only a true friend could give it. Its filled with passion and that “it” that only a singer like Jenee could add!

11)   Dan Blakeslee = happiness

12)   “Ben Riley” is our furthest reaching track going all the way to California, when ex-Somervillianite James Houlahan transplanted to. His heart is still here in town though and its damn good to have him be a part of this.

13)   Bluegrass is the best music…Mark Kilianski, Lukas Pool, and Amy Alvey are an instrumentally hot bluegrass centric band, but their take on Maya de Vitry’s tune “Harlem” is absolutely breathtaking.

14)   “Harlem” aside from its namesake is a beautifully written song about a city and the love for that city…I’d say it’s a pretty dang fitting choice for this project!

15)   Patrick Coman is a man after my own heart. He loves this community as much, if not more, than anyone else out there. His take on the Tim Gearan tune “City of Refuge” has  a nice swing and a rhythm to it. You will dig it.

16)   Tim Gearan = Boston, Somerville, Cambridge music community. The guy is a legend for his residencies here in town.

17)   Sean Staples = another legend here in town. His mandolin playing, his songs, everything about this guy is awesome, including the VERY locally focused tune on this compilation “Dance at the Plough”.

18)   The Bean Picker’s Union is an amazing collective of folks who play and make amazing music. Chuck Melchin, the ring leader of it all, is one of my personal favorite songwriters and probably writes some of the saddest damn songs I have ever heard. And everyone knows that sad songs are the best songs.

19)   Matt Chieffo opened up a whole different side of the music community and brought in a different crowd to this project. His organic, rootsy take on a more indie rock based tune really took to heart the whole point of this project. For that I am grateful…he also let me play mandolin on it. You are the man!

20)   The Fantastic Liars tune Nobody Telephone is a rollicking good one originally, they also loved this folky, roots take on it and are certainly good sports about interpretation. You guys are awesome.
